Today I am remembering a young man who is being laid to rest this morning, way too soon. I first met this special person about 13 years ago when he was a little boy in first grade, and I was the school's music teacher. He was gentle inside, strong, exuberant, enthusiastic, and caring. He always let you know what he thought and he was full of surprises -- a tough little guy who also enjoyed things like art and music. I knew his life was rough and that he had to endure things that a young boy should never have to, yet he always found a way to rise above and shine. That is how I am going to remember him today and always. rising! shining!
He accomplished so much in his short life, for which I am incredibly proud of him, and I am sad today because the world has lost a young man that was making a difference and had much to offer.
