Leaving

People come into our life for either a reason, a season or for a lifetime and it is up to us to determine which one. I visited the beach recently and a poem that was blowing on the wind, literally, came to rest on the pavement near the beach house where my family was staying. The piece of paper, torn from a journal, soaring on the wind, came to land and found its way into my warm hands, touching my heart, leaving me changed, forever.

The poem is entitled Leaving. I share it with you here, and share the digital piece I created which was inspired by these most beautiful words, which end with a note of hope I think. The woman in the photo is an image of my dear friend Ann Marie.

Leaving

Gone,
as the leaves in Winter.

empty,
as the body of the deceased.

missing,
as the light of a waning moon.

blank,
as the paper waiting to be painted over.

uncolored,
as a cloth yet to be dyed.

and there is this music that seemed to pair so well with these lovely words, which i listened to as i created, and all three things -- the poem, the image of someone I love, and the music -- all wove together in song, dancing together, creating something beyond what i could have ever imagined.

Gone song lyrics, by Jessica Riddle

I know you're gone,
I know you're leaving me
Behind your dreams,
Behind your prayers.
What do you think,
What do you want,
What do you love,
What do you love,
What do you love?

I hear your sighs
I hear your heartbeat
Pound me on my back,
I'm on my own now.
What do I see,
What do I feel,
What do I love,
What do I love,
What do I love?

I know you're gone,
I know you're leaving me
Behind your dreams,
Behind your prayers.
What do you think,
What do you want,
What do you love?
